Illustrated Maine Map – “The Folk Art Trail”

$32.00

“The Folk Art Trail”  Illustrated Maine map.  Print of an original map done as an illustration in watercolor, gouache and ink.  Whimsical antique treasure map look.

Illustrated Maine Map

This illustrated Maine Map titled “The Folk Art Trail” traces the Maine Folk Art Trail. It shows the location of museums such as the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, the Sabbath Day Lake Shaker Museum in New Gloucester, the Maine State Museum, the Colby College Museum of Art, and the Bates College Museum of Art, The Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport, the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, the Rufus Porter Museum in Bridgton and the Museums of Old York, among others.

Illustrated Animals

I painted the original of this illustrated Maine map in gouache, watercolor and ink. To give it that whimsical antique map look, I did the lettering with a calligraphy pen. Tiny paintings of Maine animals, like a whitetail deer and  and a young red fox decorate the map.  There’s  a flying blue heron, a moose and a harbor seal. A raccoon plots mischief (they’re always plotting mischief, trust me) in the Southwest corner, down by York.   A whale spouts in the ocean and there’s also a ship in full sail. If you like my wild animals, you can see other examples.  They’re hiding in paintings and prints like Maiden, Mother, Wisewoman, flying in Wild Swans, and surrounding my nude Great Mother in Breath of the Goddess.

You can also see a miniature of the Maine State Capitol building, with its copper dome.  And of course I had to paint a lovely compass rose, which also shows the area of the illustrated Maine Map’s location within Maine.

All in all, this makes a lovely camp decoration, souvenir of Maine,  plan for an art tour of Maine, or gift for a lover of antique maps.

Quality Print

This is printed on acid free heavy watercolor paper with archival inks.  It’s a high quality giclée print. I’ll sign it for you.  And the image size is about 15 x 16 inches.
