This is an ode to mothers and the way they give their children the best experiences they can, guarding them while glorying in the freedom and joy kids radiate while exploring the magic of their world. The two mothers stand firmly anchored on the pier while the wind blows their clothing into beautiful graphic shapes of bells and triangles. The children are simplified and backlit, so that their faces are mostly hidden, signifying the mystery of developing personality. I gave everyone 1950s vintage clothing, and I love the little boy in a sailor suit, delicately holding a magical feather. The oldest girl wears an old time flying cap and goggles, she’s obviously the wild woman of the group. Notice the antique painted wooden kite reels. The sky is a collection of sail shapes, and the sea is joyous layers of rich teals and purples.
