“Peace Angel” is simply an illustration of my wish for this weary world. That somehow we can all get past our fears and angers and desires for the unattainable, our allegiances to comforting illusions that conceal the pain and need of the world to us and let the dove of peace fly from our hearts to heal this sad beautiful terrible world of spirit and matter.
It’s a small medium painting, and I kept things pretty simple an more or less anchored in realism. I zeroed in on the Angel, who kneels with the hopelessness of the struggle against hate and greet, and who yet channels her hope and love into a shining bird who will fly over the world, leaving tiny feathers as seeds in heart, to glow in the darkness. The sky is tending toward night, the trees are bare, and there is a dark city in the background but the angel and the dove shine with light.
